Young Farmer of the Year Award
The next generation, already making a difference.
About this category
This award recognises a farmer, farm manager or farm worker aged 30 or under whose skill, ambition and contribution stand out. Judges look for achievement relative to experience, fresh thinking and commitment to the future of farming.
Eligibility
Open to people aged 30 or under on the closing date who work in UK farming.
Judging criteria
- Achievement relative to experience
- Skills and learning
- Fresh ideas
- Contribution to the farm
- Commitment to farming
Qualitative criteria
- Ambition
- Curiosity and a love of the work
Metrics
- Responsibilities held
- Results on the farm
- Qualifications gained and feedback from employers or family
Additional criteria
Entries should include a short account of the farm or business, supporting figures such as yields, herd or flock performance, costs or margins where relevant, and, where possible, comments from customers, buyers, advisers or neighbours. Figures can be given as ranges or percentages and nothing in an entry is shared beyond the judging panel. Judges consider the size, type and location of the farm, so a small upland holding competes on equal terms with a large lowland estate.
