Conservation and Biodiversity on the Farm Award
A farm where wildlife is welcome.
About this category
This award recognises a farm that has improved habitats and wildlife alongside food production, through hedgerows, margins, ponds, woodland or wetland. Judges look for the scale of the work, evidence of results and how it fits with the farm business.
Eligibility
Open to UK farms and estates of every size and type.
Judging criteria
- Habitat created or improved
- Evidence of wildlife results
- Integration with farming
- Long term commitment
- Engagement of others
Qualitative criteria
Food and nature thriving side by side.
Metrics
- Habitat created
- Species surveys
- Hedgerow and margin length and scheme participation
Additional criteria
Entries should include a short account of the farm or business, supporting figures such as yields, herd or flock performance, costs or margins where relevant, and, where possible, comments from customers, buyers, advisers or neighbours. Figures can be given as ranges or percentages and nothing in an entry is shared beyond the judging panel. Judges consider the size, type and location of the farm, so a small upland holding competes on equal terms with a large lowland estate.
