Regenerative Farming Award
Building soil, one season at a time.
About this category
This award recognises a farm using regenerative practices such as minimum tillage, cover crops, herbal leys or rotational grazing, and able to show the results for soil, wildlife and the business. Judges look for evidence rather than intention.
Eligibility
Open to UK farms that have used regenerative practices for at least two seasons.
Judging criteria
- Soil health results
- Biodiversity
- Business results
- Learning and adaptation
- Sharing knowledge
Qualitative criteria
Soil treated as the farm's most valuable asset.
Metrics
- Soil organic matter
- Infiltration
- Earthworm counts
- Input use
- Yields and margins
Additional criteria
Entries should include a short account of the farm or business, supporting figures such as yields, herd or flock performance, costs or margins where relevant, and, where possible, comments from customers, buyers, advisers or neighbours. Figures can be given as ranges or percentages and nothing in an entry is shared beyond the judging panel. Judges consider the size, type and location of the farm, so a small upland holding competes on equal terms with a large lowland estate.
